Our 2008 Trip to Tanzania

Monday October 27

-Arrived at school and played with kids, talked with teachers and Baba Jumas family, then straight to work
-Had meeting with Baba Juma, Nnagli, and Mama Marilyn about new porridge which will be more nutritional and better for the kids.
-Went through new uniforms and backpacks
-Started putting together a list for shopping supplies for the week
-Measured kids for new shoes

Tuesday October 28

-Doctors comes today, all kids get checkups (ears, eyes, mouth) and HIV testing for the kids and anyone else who wants tested
-Painted all Chalkboards with new blackboard paint
-Kids problems 2 eye infections, 1 infected finger, 2 ring worms, and 1 tongue fungus
- All kids were negative for HIV/ AIDS!! A small miracle on a Tuesday

Wednesday October 29

-Mama Marilyn came back with supplies to teach Mama Juma how to make the porridge
-Doctor came back with meds for infections, fungus, and ring worm. Had to lance the kid’s finger with the thumb infection.
-Bought new first aid kit, and vitamins so kids will get vitamins every morning
-Proposed and decided on future health regiment
-Met with accountant and discussed school financial problems
-Signed Memorandum for future understanding

Thursday October 30

-Field trip Day- Went to Arusha National Park
-We rented two buses, packed lunches, the kids got to see zebras, Giraffe, warthogs, water bucks, and lots of monkeys
-Good learning experience and their second field trip
-Went to visit Friends of St. Lucia Orphanage. Our friend Pat is building from Australia. The orphanage with be self-sustaining and have a kindergarten
-Good for us to network and get involved with other projects in TZ

Friday October 31

-Village Party Day- we started by going all over town and picking up supplies. All supplies were bought from the village
-Put together our gifts- new uniform, backpack, and shoes
-Meet with Nngali, plans for the future; build new classrooms, child support program, and school bus
-Village Party with parents and anyone who wanted to come, we had a meeting with the parents and teachers, and concert by the kids, and then a huge dinner
-Donated funds to aid in teacher salaries


Saturday November 1

-We visited Nkoaranga Orphanage and Future Happiness Home. These are 2 places that we care a lot about at TEF. These children are orphaned and all of the girls at Future Happiness home are sick. In the future we plan on helping these wonderful places as much as we can!

Monday November 3

-Back to Meru View to say good byes, do photos, give lollipops
-Finish interview with Baba Juma and finalize all our plans
-Buy Ceramic pot for water filter, clean water at all times now
-Went to visit Ilkurot Massai School with our partner Donna, made donation to the nursery school, it is an example of progress and where we want to be in the future
